After Years of Belt Tightening the House Wants To Do WHAT?

After several years of budget cuts, WV is finally running a budget surplus again. All types of proposals have come forth for how to spend these additional funds. Many programs and institutions that had their funds slashed over the past years breathed a cautious sigh of relief. The years of the budget shortfalls seemed to be at an end…or so we thought.

The House of Delegates has now voted to further lower our state’s severance tax on steam coal. This would take 60 million dollars out of the state budget, and hurt collections at the county level.

After years of shortfalls, the last thing we need is to cut a major state funding source off at the knees. Call your senators and ask them to reject the House’s cuts to severance taxes.
