Wouldn’t you love it if you didn’t have to worry about overdrawing your checking account because you had your own “rainy day fund?” Jim Justice overdrew West Virginia’s account by over $30 million in July.
To fill the shortfall, Governor Justice borrowed the difference from our state’s Rainy Day Fund. While this helps the state pay the bills for the time being, maybe it’s time to reconsider the massive tax break our legislature gave the coal industry this past session.
Those millions could help fill shortfalls for years to come without passing the burden on to struggling West Virginians.
Plus, when we really need that Rainy Day Fund, maybe we’d have something in it.
